Fatigue crack characterisation in 2024-T351 aluminium alloy through SEM observation combined with the CJP model

This work characterises crack growth in AA2024-T315 by combining different methods to further increase the reliability of results. The Christopher-James-Patterson (CJP) model was fitted experimental data obtained digital image correlation (DIC). effective value CJP stress intensity factors were successfully correlated with ?K-da/dN curve as Scanning Electron Microscopy measurements depth striations on fracture surface. approach based fitting DIC and SEM observations allowed estimation opening closure loads propagation rate mode be effectively characterised.
